Why I always recommend in-home sessions to families with small children.

As a seasoned family and newborn photographer, there are SO MANY advantages to an in-home session when you have teeny jelly-beany kiddos, and here is another: we don’t have to time your session for golden hour.

See, for that delicious golden hour light that’s necessary for getting the soft and dreamy romantic result we all love, you need to time the session pretty strictly with the half hour directly before sunset, and when there are small humans to consider, this can be HARD.

I’ll be honest, when my kids were under 6, there was an exactly *zero percent* chance I was taking them outside the house after 5pm for any reason - let alone something I’d invested in financially, where the outcome was directly reliant on my beautiful but tired children holding it together.

And during daylight savings..?

Mate, over the warmer seasons here in Geelong, the sun is still high in the sky at 8pm! Yeah, that’s a no from me.

In-home means we aren’t locked in to  certain window of time.

I can visit in the morning when everyone’s their best selves, we can work around nap times, meal times - all the things. And we’re not on the clock, racing against the setting sun. We can go slow, take breaks, change direction, and let the kids lead, which always results in the best photos of your little munchkins.

In-home is THE way to ensure a positive, stress-free, relaxed photography experience for the whole family, and I will die on that hill.

Enjoy a few highlights from a maternity session I photographed for a family awaiting their third little baby.

Though I’m based in Geelong, I work with families all across the region, and I travelled to Melbourne to visit with this gorgeous crew.
